Athena Women
Even though women have made tremendous strides in all areas of the workforce, men are still the majority when it comes to leadership. Dentistry is no exception, where women are woefully underrepresented in leadership, academically and professionally. The reason for this? In general, some women are still expected to pull most of the weight at home, which makes advancing their careers more challenging. Some women may be more reluctant to do so because they take on more of the home and family responsibilities. Additionally, mentorship opportunities may not be as abundant for women as they are for men.
Fortunately, men are starting to understand the value that women bring to the workforce. The prevailing thought is no longer that women are taking men’s places — there is much more acceptance and professional respect. However, many women still feel the pressure of home life more than men do, and that can be a big hurdle to owning a practice.
Achieving a work-family balance is of utmost importance to female dentists. The increasing number of women entering dentistry makes the issue of balancing the personal and professional life increasingly relevant.
Although 80% of dentistry is governed by female dentist in India but still they are not recognised & well acclaimed likewise men do
While female dentists continue to face unique challenges in the profession, they have found and continue to find opportunities to move dentistry forward, contributing in various fields including academia, science and research, organized dentistry and advocacy
